After he obtained his B.S. and M.S. in chemistry, and his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Kang worked for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He was a Primary Patent Examiner, examining patent applications that were related to semiconductor device, display (LCD, LED, OLED) and image sensors arts.
Dr. Kang later became a patent counsel at Samsung Electronics, where he was in charge of managing patent prosecution and patent litigation, as well as negotiating patent licensing agreements with competitors, universities, and non-practicing entities. This experience equipped him with insights on how to achieve success in prosecution and litigation.
Afterwards, Dr. Kang was appointed vice president at Doosan Enerbility, where his mandate was to establish the IP department and to oversee worldwide patent and trademark filings. In addition, Dr. Kang directed Doosan’s patent portfolio management strategies, patent litigation, arbitration, trade secret, licensing contracts, technology transfer, and IP due diligence.
Dr. Kang is conversant with both the U.S. and the Korean patent procedures, and thus he works exceptionally well with multinational corporations, in addition to small and midsize companies. His result-oriented approach, and his gracious character create an atmosphere that is informative, professional, and friendly. Therefore, inventors and colleagues enjoy working with him.
Dr. Kang and his wife are busy parents of their two children. For recreation, he enjoys golf, soccer, and tennis.
